Motsatsi Priscilla Ramoetlo
Born in 1994, September 17th
Occupation: Fashion Designer
Priscilla started school at Northampton Primary school in 2001, Bolobedu Block 18. She changed schools to Sefahone Primary school continuing from Grade 4 until Grade 7. “My favourite teacher was Mr Malatji, who is now a Principal. I once got an award for the best netball player.” Motsatsi Priscilla moved on to Modubatse High school until her Grade 12 in 2013 where she obtained her Bachelor’s pass. ”I enrolled for Bsc Plant Production at the University of Limpopo in 2014, completed in 2017, and graduated in 2018″ She then enrolled for Master of Science Agriculture ( Plant Protection) in 2018 and graduated 2022.
Instead of working in the Agricultural Sectors, Motsatsi’s Passion led her elsewhere. “I didn’t really study for this, it was a matter of curiosity, passion and discipline that got me to where I am right now.” Motsatsi learned about sewing from her mother during the lockdown period. “My mother used to crochet and I asked her to teach me during lockdown as a way of coping with the stress of the pandemic and staying indoors all the time.”
Motsatsi was a face of Juleve collection in 2018. “She has walked for Zycrane and Art Africana fashion show in 2018 and continued modelling. She fell in love with fashion designing. “I design bags, traditional clothes, evening garments, swim wears, and graduation attires amongst other things”. In 2019, Motsatsi worked at Kings Hotel at Dalmada as a receptionist, where she saved her money and bought her first domestic sewing machine of her own…without any investors or help. She is a good example to all graduates and non-graduates that there is no excuse for not following your dreams. There is always a way as long as the dream is important enough. “I kept learning on my own and everytime I made something for myself, people would ask me to make for them as well”.
In 2021, Priscilla registered her business and by 2022, she was awarded a tender to make approximately 120 jackets for the University of Limpopo WIPO ( World Intellectual Property Organisation) summer school . She took part in Radio interviews such as Heita, Blouberg FM and Gateway FM. During the 2022 Fashion Show, she was awarded a certificate of recognition as a Fashion Designer. “I have attended Small Business Runaway, TEA workshop sponsored by Nedbank and NYDA (National Youth Development Agency) in 2023 and The University of Limpopo Masterclass for Fashion Designers”. In 2023, I took part in the Miss Limpopo Plus Size Model Pageant, showcasing my work. She also took part in Global entrepreneurship week: Polokwane municipality fashion show and competition, where she took 3rd position awards sponsored by Standard Bank and SEDA. Priscilla’s hardwork earned her recognition and she is now funded by the NYDA ( National Youth Development Agency) to pursue her goals and dreams in the fashion industry.
Motsatsi Priscilla Ramoetlo, a Masters of Science graduate in plant protection, managed to turn a hobby into an award winning business. “I look up to Itumeleng Maboko of Design by Hands”
Elegance is a good taste
“I think we all know boldness when we see it. Nothing makes me smile more than when I see someone being fully themselves, with their own individual style and character, whatever that is.” —Angelina Jolie
“Philippians 4:13
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
It is the one scripture that gives me confidence, even though I’m not qualified for fashion but through my curiosity, passion and consistency I managed to get this far so this has to be grace”
